Most of us confuse ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Wisdom’ to be the same. Whereas, the truth is, that both of them are different. Knowledge is acquired, while wisdom is the correct application of knowledge as per the parameters of the here and now. Mr. Miles Kington, a British journalist, musician and broadcaster, once quoted that “Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.”
Knowledge is the information that we gather through learning about a particular thing, place or person. We gather this information through various mediums like books, tutorials, online researches or through experiences whereas; Wisdom is the ability to apply that learned knowledge in the right place and at the right time.
Knowledge is gained by learning facts and information about a particular subject. Wisdom is gained by observing the experiences, that take place when knowledge is applied and also by learning from the consequences and results. A man may not have got a formal education in life, but he could be very wise because he would be a keen observer of life.
Knowledge is reading a story, Wisdom is understanding the moral of the story. Knowledge is knowing the Pythagoras theorem. Wisdom is applying is to find the shortest path on a road trip. Knowledge is knowing how to use a Gun and Wisdom is knowing when to use and when not to use it.
Knowledge resides in the Manipura Chakra ruled by the Sun and Wisdom exudes from the Vishuddha Chakra that is ruled by the Guru. Knowledge is Power while Wisdom is a Virtue. Knowledge is obtained while Wisdom is developed. Knowledge is Theoretical and related to mind while Wisdom is Spiritual and is connected to Soul. Wisdom is that quality that makes a person take the right decision in the moment as per Dharma. It the application of knowledge, common sense and experience at the right time, place, manner and situation so the right course of action is chosen. While knowledge can change over time, Wisdom is timeless.
