Are there Sins that just cannot be pardoned?

For this firstly let us dwell on what is a Sin?

It is described as a bad deed or wrongdoing. According to the standard list, they are ego, greed, anger, jealousy, lust, gluttony, and laziness which are contrary to the seven divine virtues. These sins are considered to be abuses of one’s natural nature (for example, laziness abuses one’s nature of work, lust abuses love, gluttony abuses one’s desire to eat, ego abuses one’s nature of acceptance).

What response does a Sin evoke?

In a human being it evokes anger when he sees the other doing a mistake or not behaving in the expected manner. The emotions of hurt, grief, mistrust, jealousy, fear, frustration are different faces of anger. And actions that affect the other person by way of causing him physical, material loss or harm are given punishment by the law of the land.

How are Sins corrected?

A Sin will definitely have its pitfalls as it would either cause harm to oneself or the other. So, sins like gluttony, lust and laziness would distract a person from his path and keep him stuck in illusions. Sins like ego, greed, anger, jealousy would cause disharmony with others and make him lose favour. Eventually the person will realise that the losses incurred due to commitment of sin far outweigh the momentarily sensory gains and then he will start changing himself. Mistakes and untoward behaviour are looked down upon by others and he is expected to behave the right way. It is the reactions of the people and the law of the land that will put pressure on him to abandon the wrong alignment.

Is a Sin done on purpose?

It is natural to think that a person who is committing the sin is doing it knowingly. A person who enacts a behaviour actually does it when he aligns to a belief system that makes him feel that the action as is justified.

Once we get deep into the understanding why the person behaved as he did, the actions/behaviour of the person would seem less ‘sinful’.

When God has made man in His image, He is said to be in state of Sat, Cit, Ananda or Truth, Consciousness and Bliss, then it means that Sin is not our innate nature. All ancient books write about forgiveness, love and compassion as the nature of divinity. Krishna asks Arjuna in Gita to surrender his actions whether good or bad to Him. He implies that once you realise that He makes you do the mistakes and He alone makes you realise the lessons from the mistakes, you rise above Karma. After all life is not about just doing good deeds. It is about realising the self above good and bad. There is no person who has never done any sin or mistake in his life. What you call a deed good, it could be wrong for another person. For example, you can give alms to a beggar and another person can opine that because of your action, the beggar continues begging. Or you could sacrifice something dear to you for a close friend and your spouse could find that unacceptable. So, here the question comes

Is there anything called a Sin?

In the eyes of God, No. Even killing another human being will not be a Sin. Every action has a reason that the person doing it is aligned with. Due to that reason, it is not a Sin as the person was made to do it due to his (wrong) alignment which could be due to anger or disillusionment. In the eyes of the loving God who is all knowing and ever compassionate, everything happens for self-evolution and nothing happens for destruction. All humans live a scripted drama of life. If they think they are the actors in the play of life, they align with the drama and suffer the histrionics of pleasure and pain. As they evolve, they detach from it and become a witness. Then there is no deed that deserves reward and no sin that in unpardonable.
