Colour Therapy

Close your eyes and then open them. You will find colours everywhere, visible to your eyes. A colour is actually a wave travelling through space. Depending on their wavelength, our eyes register different colours. Colours have had an impact on the human mind since time immemorial.

A colour is often a mirror of your emotions. ‘What is your favourite colour?’ If you instantly say, for example, blue, but why? Have you ever asked yourself what makes you love this particular colour? Why do you avoid certain colours? And what do you react so strongly to specific colours, for example, red?

There is a subtle connection between colours and emotions. Colours are fluid and they constantly change as your emotions change. How your mind relates to every colour says a lot about your physical, emotional, and spiritual state.

Colours and Chakras

Colour therapy works on the principle that certain colors are infused with healing powers because they relate to the colours of Chakras, the subtle energy centres in the human body. Each of your seven chakras is vibrating at a particular frequency and responds to different vibrations (or wavelengths) of light.

Within these frequencies, each colour contains information of several different levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This information can be used for balancing and healing the Chakras. There is no single colour that has more value than the other. The colour is simply an aspect of the visible light spectrum with a particular frequency.

Each of the seven Chakras in our body has its defined cosmic colour. The first of the energy centres, the Muladhara or the Root Chakra is the most dense of all and its cosmic colour is deep red. The Swadhisthana or Sacral Chakra is the centre of self-esteem and creativity and its cosmic colour is orange. The Manipura or Solar Plexus chakra’s cosmic colour is yellow and the Anahat or Heart Chakra’s colour is green. The Throat or Vishuddha Chakra’s colour is blue, while the Ajna or the Third Eye Chakra is indigo. The Sahashara or the Crown Chakra is violet and the energy of this colour is very healing.

You can use colours to heal and balance any element of your chakras. For instance, wearing an orange t-shirt energizes your Swadhisthan Chakra that has orange as its cosmic colour. Wearing a green emerald will energise your Anahat or Heart chakra, whose cosmic colour is green.
